Life is limping back to normal in Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir after cloudburst triggered one of the worst flash flood in the region on Friday. People have started returning to their homes and clearing debris. Leh market is lively with people starting business. District Administration is working on a war footing to provide relief to affected people with the help of Army, ITBP and CRPF. The public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has restored its mobile service in the region. AIR Leh correspondent Yangchan Dolma reports that all efforts are being made for early restoration of traffic on Leh-Srinagar National Highway and Leh-Manali Highway. Meanwhile, 73 injured people, including security personnel, were flown from Leh to Udhampur by Indian Air Force for medical help yesterday. Deputy Commissioner of Leh Tsering Angchuk told AIR that the toll in the tragedy has risen to 170. About 400 people still missing. Three French nationals, an Italian and a Spaniard were among 23 foreigners killed in cloudburst and flash flood that devastated Leh. Around 100 American nationals have been affected by the flash flood in Leh but there is no report of any death or injury. State Department spokesman P J Crowley said that US Embassy in New Delhi has dispatched a team to the region to provide them necessary help. French authorities have launched a search along with Indian Army for three French tourists missing in the Leh flash flood. This was disclosed by Deputy Spokeswoman of the French Foreign Ministry Christine Fages in Paris yesterday. The French trekkers have been missing since Thursday evening near the village of Sumda Chenmo in the mountainous region after being cut off by a flooded river.The Leh calamity figured in the Lok Sabha yesterday with twoCongress members from Jammu and Kashmir requesting the Centre to ensure all support in rehabilitation of the affected.Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh assured the Jammu and Kashmir Government of all the help in rehabilitation of the victims of flash flood in Leh region. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has written to the Prime Minister condoling the loss of lives in floods in Leh.
