Life disrupted on 2nd day of nationwide strike by trade unions

Normal life was disrupted in various states today on the second day of two-day nationwide strike call given by 11 central trade unions to press for wage hike in the back drop of rising inflation. The bank strike was also a part of this strike and banking operations were also affected for the second day today.

In the national capital industrial units and banks either remained closed or witnessed thin attendance while markets and commercial areas were open. Most of auto-rickshaws and taxis stayed off the road. Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indian Industry has estimated the economic loss to the tune of over 20 thousand crore rupees due to the strike.

In Mumbai, the strike witnessed almost 100 per cent participation by employees from the banking and insurance sector. Most ATMs had dried up causing a lot of inconvenience to the common people. However, Railways and buses were functioning normally.

In Kerala, schools, business establishments, shops and petrol pumps remained closed. According to the Police,there has has been no untoward incident.

In Jharkhand, the strike affected dispatch of coal in the collieries, however, government offices, educational institutes, shops and transport functioned normally in all the major towns.

In Jammu and Kashmir, work in all nationalized banks and insurance sector offices remained paralyzed. However, the normal life was peaceful in Jammu and the traffic plied normally while the business stablishments also remained open.

In Assam, train services were not affected but Commuters faced difficulties as most of the buses remained off the road including Guwahati city. Educational institutions and banking services were also affected .

In Odisha, the strike affected normal life. Train services were disrupted and buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws remained off the roads. All major banks, insurance and post offices, petrol pumps were closed .
