Libyan government troops and rebel forces have been involved in fighting on Wednesday to control an oil refinery in the coastal city of Zawiyah some 45 kilometres west of Tripoli. Heavy gun fire was reported near the refinery complex which supplies oil and gas to the Libyan capital. Reports say, the rebels have made a significant gains in Zawiyah and elsewhere in recent days.
