Libyan rebels recapture Bin Jawad

Libyan rebels fighting against Muammar Gaddafi today recaptured Bin Jawad, a hamlet 50 kilometres west of the key oil town of Ras Lanuf. Western media reports said, the rebels took advantage of French air strikes on Bin Jawad this afternoon that destroyed several tanks. A group of the rebels drove off down the road in the direction of Sirte, about 150 kilometres to the west, emboldened by the lack of resistance they encountered in Bin Jawad. The rebels had withdrawn from Bin Jawad on 6th of this month after suffering heavy casualties when they were ambushed by pro-Gaddafi ground forces backed by warplanes. Reports say, the rebels today took control of the key eastern oil town of Ras Lanuf.Ras Lanuf is 370 kilometres west of the rebel stronghold city of Benghazi and 210 kilometres from Ajdabiya, the first town to fall back into rebel hands yesterday following a week long air strikes by the allied forces.
