Libya says it is ready for ceasefire and negotiations with rebels

Libya said it is ready for a ceasefire and negotiations with rebels who hold the east of the country but demanded an immediate halt to NATO air strikes. The government also insisted Muammar Gaddafi would not relinquish power, which he has held for more than 40 years. His departure is a key demand of the United States, European leaders and the rebels. On the war front, al-Arabiya television reported that NATO air forces are targeting the city of Tajoura near the Libyan capital Tripoli and the city is now under severe bombardment.
