The Libya Contact Group has formally recognized main opposition group as the country’s legitimate government until a new interim authority is created. During the fourth meeting held in Istanbul in Turkey, the contact group took the decision, which declared Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s regime no longer legitimate. This will potentially free up cash that the rebels fighting Libyan forces urgently need.In addition to the U.S., the 32-nation Contact Group on Libya includes members of NATO, the EU and the Arab League.In his message, UN secretary General Ban Ki-moon appealed to the international community to help to resolve the crisis in Libya by making both parties engaged in direct negotiations. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that the U.S. views the Gadhafi regime as no longer having any legitimate authority in Libya.
