Let’s make peace in House: Centre to Opposition

With the Opposition continuing to stall Parliament, the Government has appealed to all parties to help end the stalemate. It maintained that Government's opposition to setting up of JPC to probe 2G spectrum allocation did not mean the matter will not be investigated.Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance minister Pranab Mukerjee said that the matter could be looked into by Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, which he said, is as good as JPC. Meanwhile, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal who was given additional charge of telecom portfolio after the resignation of A Raja has strongly defended Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s stand over the 2G spectrum issue. He said the Prime Minister was a man of integrity and he did not think that anybody in this country believes that he was trying to circumvent the law. Attacking Subramaniam Swamy—who has approached the Supreme Court seeking sanction for prosecution of Raja—Sibal said it would be a sad day for the country if sanction was expected merely on the basis of newspapers reports. He said as far as the Prime Minister's Office was concerned, they are absolutely clear that they had done no wrong.Extending his full support to the Prime Minister, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that he did not think Singh was in an embarrassing position at all.
