LeT poses highest risk to US: Peter Bergen

A top American counter-terrorism expert said that Pakistan-based terror-outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, LeT, poses the highest risk to the US. Peter Bergen, a senior official at the Counter-terrorism Strategy Initiative at New America Foundation said that LeT is acting in a more al-Qaeda-like manner after being infected by ideas of Osama bin Laden's terror network. He said, Al Qaeda has infected other groups in South Asia with its ideas. He stated this during his testimony before the House Homeland and Security Committee, which organised a hearing on the evolving nature of terrorism, nine years after 9/11. Mr Bergen said, Lashkar-e-Taiba is the largest group and attracts educated people. Referring to Pakistani Taliban sending a bomber to Times Square in New York, he said, even the attack in Mumbai demonstrated that they are willing to hunt down Americans and Jews. On the Haqqani network, Bergen said it seems to be very focussed on Afghanistan.
