Massive rescue operations are underway in the devastating flood-hit Leh town in Laddakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Thirty-three columns of Army personnel have been deployed for the operations. AIR correspondent reports the death toll has risen to 128. More than 100 are missing. Over 100 people are admitted in various hospitals. BSNL building has been washed away affecting the communication net work. AIR resumed its FM transmission from 11.00 this morning and the transmission is going on both in Laddaki and Rainbow FM despite the building being badly hit by the floods.Relief materials have reached the airport with the improvement in weather. Roads connecting the upper part and lower parts of Leh city have also been cleared. The local people have started moving from place to place to know the welfare of their relatives and friends. A three-member Central team comprising Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prithviraj Chavan has arrived in Leh to make an on the spot assessment of the situation. A team of 140 personnel of the National Disaster Relief Force alongwith doctors and para-medical staff are accompanying them. The nation, led by President Pratibha Patil expressed grief over the tragedy. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed sorrow over the loss of life and property in the flash floods and announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 1 lakh each to next of kin of the deceased. The State Government has also announced Rs 2 lakh relief for the families of each of those killed in the natural disaster.
