The body of the legendary singer, Dada Saheb Phalke awardee, Padma Bhusan Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has reached Guwahati in Assam, a short while ago.Dr. Hazarika, 86, breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Memorial Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday following multi-organ failure.The State Governor J.B.Patnaik, the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his Cabinet colleagues and top Government officials offered rich floral tributes to the ‘Asom Ratna’ as soon as his body arrived at Borjhar Airport in Guwahati.Later, his body was escorted in a specially decorated vehicle to his ancestral house at Nizarapar in the city.AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that a large number of fans gathered at several specified spots of the city to pay homage to the music maestro when the body was taken to his native home from airport.According to official sources, Dr. Hazarika’s body will be kept at his ancestral house for around three hours and later it will be taken to historic Judges Field where the body will be kept for public viewing and paying tributes till 12.00 noon tomorrow.Dr. Hazarika’s last rites will be performed with full State Honours tomorrow afternoon at Sankardev Park on the bank of the river Brahmaputra in the heart of the Guwahati city.Assam Government has declared a three-day State Mourning beginning yesterday and a holiday tomorrow as a mark of respect to the departed soul.An emotional scene prevailed as soon as Dr. Hazarika’s body reached Borjhar airport from Mumbai by a Jet airways flight in Guwahati.The State Governor J.B.Patnaik, the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his Cabinet colleagues, top Government officials and family members who were waiting to receive the body at airport, paid rich tributes to the ‘Asom Ratna.’Later, his body was escorted in a specially decorated vehicle to his ancestral house at Nizarapar in the city.
