Legendary Kannada actress Leelavathi passed away near Bengaluru on Friday. She was 85. She had acted in over 600 films spanning over several decades from 1958 to 2009. Leelavathi began her acting career with the film Mangalya Yoga in 1958. Apart from Kannada movies, she had to her credit of acting in several Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies too. She starred in cult classic Kannada films Ranadheera Kanteerava, Rani Honnamma, Gaali Gopura, Naagarahaavu, Mana Mechida Madadi, Gejje Pooje among others. She is remembered for her captivating roles in Bhakta Kumbara, Santha Thukaram and Bhakta Prahlada. She worked with Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar in several films. She is the recipient of Dr. Rajkumar Life time Award given by the state Government and the Filmfare Award for the best supporting actress for her Kannada film Kannadada Kanda in 2006.
