Left Front bags absolute majority in T'pura winning 37 seats in 60 member assembly

In Tripura, the ruling Left Front has retained power winning an absolute majority in the 60 member assembly. The Left parties bagged 37 seats while 6 have gone in favour of Congress. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has registered convincing victory from Dhanpur constituency by a margin of over five thousand votes. State Assembly Speaker Ramendra Chandra Debnath defeated his nearest Congress rival by over 2 thousand 800 votes from Yuvrajnagar constituency. Senior Left front leaders and sitting ministers including Anil Sarkar, Badal Choudhury, Manindra Reyang , Aghore Deb Barman have been re-elected from their constituencies. Former Congress Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman lost to Left Front candidate. BJP has also failed to open its account in the state.
