Leaders of three major parties meet Prez Dr Ram Baran Yadav

In Nepal, leaders of the three major parties – Unified CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) – met the President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the Rashtrpati Bhavan in Kathmandu on Tuesday and discussed key issues relating to peace process, drafting of the constitution and government formation. During the meeting the President reportedly urged the leaders to arrive at a consensus to complete the peace process and writing of the new constitution during the remaining term of the constituent assembly that expires on May 28 next year. Talking to newsmen, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalnath Khanal said despite their differences, the three main parties have agreed to take forward the dialogue process to achieve a broad consensus on all major issues. He said discussions were also held to introduce a full budget in the parliament on the basis of political consensus to resolve the financial crisis. Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala however told newsmen that his party will not pull out the party candidate from the Prime Ministerial election without an agreement among the parties on issues relating to peace, constitution and leadership of the new government. The meeting attended by caretaker Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and top leaders of three major parties – Unified CPN(Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN(UML) comes at a time when the country is faced with a severe financial crisis and the parliament unable to elect a new Prime Minister despite repeated attempts to pave way for forming a new government.
