LDF demands emergency assembly session on Mullaperiyar dam issue

In Kerala, opposition LDF has demanded an emergency session of state legislative assembly to discuss the Mullaperiyar dam safety issue. After an urgent meeting of the state committee in Thiruvananthapuram today LDF Convenor Vaikkam Vishwan said that the Prime Minister should persuade Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to sort out the sensitive issue outside the court.He said that about 26 tremors this year in Idukki has made the old dam more unsafe.LDF insisted on reducing the water level to 120 feet and construction of a new dam decommissioning the present one.Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan will be leading a delegation to Mullaperiyar dam tomorrow.On 8th December LDF will be forming a human wall from the dam site towards Arabian sea in support of the mass agitation.
