Fag-end buying led to the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange closing with a good gain of 188 points, or 1.2 per cent, at 16,227, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange added 54 points, or 1.1 percent, to 4,856. Markets in China, Hong Kong and Singapore remained closed for a holiday, while the bourses in Japan and South Korea posted modest gains.
