Last rites of noted social worker Nanaji to be performed today

Last rites of renowned social activist and former Member of Parliament Nanaji Deshmukh will be taking place this after noon at Chitrakoot with full state honour. In Madhya Pradesh the state government has announced a one day state mourning today as a mark of respect to the departed social worker and saffron ideologue. Nanaji was died last evening at Chitrakoot district. He was 94. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati has also expressed her deep sorrow over death of Nanaji. In her condolence message issued at Lucknow she has said that people would always remember Nanaji contribution for the development of rural areas. She has said that Nanaji has served the country men selflessly. As per his wishes his body will be given to All India Institute of Medical Sciences for research work.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that he breathed last at Sadguru Seva Sangh hospital. He had been ailing for quite some time, complained of chest pain in the morning following which he was taken to the hospital. His body has been kept at his residence Siyaram kutir for people to pay their last respect. Large numbers of people from different walks of life and senior BJP and RSS leaders have started reaching at Chitrakoot to attend his funeral and pay their last respect. Massive security arrangements have been made at bordering areas of both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in view of visits of senior political leaders and dignitaries.<br/><br/> Nanaji was a founder member of Jansangh a saffron political outfit. He was born on October 11, 1917 at Kadoli, a small town in Parbhani District of Maharashtra and was actively participated in Bhoodan Movement started by Acharya Vinoba Bhave. When Jai Prakash Narayan gave the call for Total Revolution he responded by giving total support to this movement.<br/><br/> Nanaji was elected to Lok Sabha in 1977 from Balrampur parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He was nominated to Rajya Sabha in the year 1999 in recognition to his services to the nation. He had given up active politics.<br/><br/> Nanaji was serving Deendayal Research Institute that he himself had established way back in 1969. He has also established Chitrakoot Gramodya Vishwavidyalaya in 1990 at Chitrakoot- India 's first rural university and was its first Chancellor. He had initiated several vocational programme for rural women through this institute to provide self employment opportunity to rural women. He was also awarded the prestigious Padma Vibhushan for his social work particularly in the field of rain water harvesting in the<br/>Chitrakoot belt in 1999.
