Mortal remains of Veteran Indian classical singer Thumari queen Girija Devi consigned to flames this evening at Manikarnika ghat in her birthplace Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with full state honour. <br/><br/>Her grandson Arindom Dutta performed her last rituals. Her dead body was brought this afternoon at her Varanasi from Kolkata.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that a large number of people from different walks of life attended her funeral procession which was carried out from her Chaukaghat residence. <br/><br/>Minister of State of Information of State Government and local MLA Neelkanth Tiwari paid homage to her offering floral tributes. Local BJP MLAs Awadesh Singh and Saurabh Srivastava, famous folk singer and her disciple Malini Awasthi, Divisional Commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn, District Magistrate and district police chief also attended her cremation.<br/><br/>Before cremation, her dead body was kept at her residence for public homage. Girija Devi, the doyen of Banaras Gharana, was born in Varanasi on May 8, 1929. She passed away day before yesterday in Kolkata following cardiac arrest. She was 88.
