Last rites for Grace with full state honours

The last rites on mortal remains of the eminent Marathi poet Prof. Manik Godghate alias Grace were performed with full state honours in Nagpur today. Maharashtra Ministers Mr. Anil Deshmukh and Dr. Nitin Raut along with a host of prominent personalities from art and literature and various other spheres of life were present on this occasion. Earlier, he breathed his last at a private hospital in Pune yesterday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 74.Known for his trend setting poetry which depicted pathos in human life with a mystical element, he won many awards for his literature including collections of free flowing individualistic articles. He was honoured with the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award recently for his book 'Varyane halte raan'. Acclaimed for his experimentation with poetic form, Grace was considered a path breaking Marathi poet of contemporary literature.
