The Finance Ministry has extended the date for filling Income Tax Returns by a week to 7th of September. The earlier date for filling the returns was 31 of August. The Income Tax Department earlier, had extended the last date for filing I-T Returns by residents of Gujarat to 7th of this month following disruption of normal life due to agitation over reservation issue. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department's ambitious One Time password-based ITR filing system has posted impressive numbers as it has verified over 29 lakh returns by 31st of August.<br/><br/>The new e-filing system, enabled last month, allows online verification of a person's Income Tax Returns by using either Aadhaar number, internet banking, ATM or email, thereby ending the practice of sending paper acknowledgement to its office in Bengaluru.
