Laser Technology in its 50th year

LASER technology has been around for fifty years. LASER is an acronym for Light Amplication by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. The very first functional laser was demonstrated by Theodor Maiman on May 16, 1960.<br/><br/>Today on the 50th anniversary of its invention, lets take out a minute and ponder on the ways in which our life has been affected by this revolution.<br/><br/>In the medical field, laser is used in cosmetic surgery to remove scars, tattoos, and other skin defects, the removal of tumors is done by lasers, and also the corrective eye surgery. In the scientific research and military field, laser is used for cooling, microscopy, laser sight, distance measurement, and various other applications.<br/><br/>CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs which are based on the laser technology have revolutionized our multimedia experience.<br/><br/>Extensive laser shows will be an essential part of the closing ceremony of the T20 World Cup in West Indies which concludes today. Therefore it won't be an overstatement to say that today LASER is everywhere.
