In Afghanistan, NATO and Afghan coalition patrol discovered and destroyed a large weapons cache during a search operation in Muhammad Aghah district of Logar province yesterday. A Joint Command press release issued in Kabul today says the cache consisted of several mortar rounds, 600 heavy machine gun rounds, 400 feet of detonation cord, fuses, blasting caps, batteries, 227 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, one light machine gun, grenades, a rifle and two rocket propelled grenades. In another search operation an Afghan-led security force detained several Taliban leader and their facilitators in Helmand, Jabul and Kandhar provinces. They were responsible for roadside bomb attacks and distributing heavy weapons for Taliban operatives in the district. Coalition patrol also detained several suspected insurgents in Wardak province. One of the insurgents was responsible for improvised explosive device attacks and distributing weapons to insurgents in the area.
