Large number of mourners attend funerals of protests victims in Bahrain

In Bahrain, a large number of mourners attended the funeral of people who were killed during anti government demonstrations in the country. Reports suggest that mood of the mourners appeared to be defiant after the attack of security forces on Thursday on a protest encampment in Bahrain's capital, Manama.A rally of government supporters also took place in capital on Friday expressing their support for the government.Military forces are present in key areas and checkpoints on main roadways. Bahrain’s health minister said three people were killed and 195 wounded in the police action on protestors on Thursday, but the opposition reported four deaths. Other media reports said that there were several missing people, specifically people seeking medical treatment at hospitals.Meanwhile, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Thursday night pledged full political, economic, security, defence support to Bahrain, and expressed rejection of external interference in the Kingdom’s domestic affairs.United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that he was deeply troubled by the violence in Bahrain and those responsible should be brought to justice. US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has expressed Washington's deep concern and urged restraint. Similar criticism came from Britain and the European Union, and Human Rights Watch urging Bahraini authorities to order security forces to stop attacks on peaceful protesters.In Iran, the worshipers staged protests after weekly Friday prayers congregation against the post-vote riot leaders and called on the Judiciary to take action against them. IRNA reports that they demanded action against the country’s establishment after the 2009 presidential elections. Two people were killed on Monday in anti government protests in the country.
