Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena is scheduled to meet Jaffna University students today over the incident in which two university students were allegedly shot at by the police.

The students had launched a protest campaign last week after the incident and were demanding a meeting with President. They have been demanding that action be taken against those who were responsible for the shooting. The week-long protest was suspended yesterday following a discussion held with Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Minister D.M. Swaminathan.

Two students of Jaffna University had died after they were shot at by the police for disobeying orders to stop at a roadblock in Kankesanthurai on 21st of last month.

Police had initially tried to hide facts saying the deaths were an accident but post-mortem reports confirming death in firing created uproar amongst minority Tamils in Sri Lanka.
