Lankan Prez led UPFA returns to power, wins by impressive margin

The ruling coalition in Sri Lanka led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa has secured a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections.<br/><br/>The party has already crossed the half way mark bagging 117 seats in the 225-member assembly. The main opposition United National Party (UNP) won 46 seats.<br/><br/>The third front Democratic National Alliance (DNA) led by the defeated common consensus opposition candidate in the January 26th Presidential election, retired General Sarath Fonseka has failed to make much of an impact.<br/><br/>The impressive victory of the ruling combine, coming as it does within three months after the re-election of Mr. Rajapaksa as the President, would further strengthen Rajapaksa's grip on power.
