The ruling coalition in Sri Lanka led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa has secured a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections. The party has already crossed the half way mark bagging 117 seats in the 225-member House.<br/><br/>Officials said with results for 45 seats are yet to be declared, the main opposition United National Party (UNP) won 46 seats, pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance 12 while detained former Army Chief Fonseka's JVP-dominated Democratic National Alliance (DNA) got just five seats so far.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent reports that the impressive victory of the ruling combine, coming as it does within three months after the re-election of Mr Rajapaksa as the President, would further strengthen Rajapaksa's grip on power.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, General Sarath Fonseka’s second Court Martial to examine the alleged illegal arms deal was adjourned for the day and the next hearing will be held on the 19th of April.<br/><br/>The second court martial hearing charges again General Sarath Fonseka resumed its sittings this afternoon at Navy Headquarters.<br/><br/>The tribunal comprising Major General Milinda Peiris (President), Major General S.W.L. Daulagala and Major General M. Hathurusinghe will re-commence its hearings on 19th April 2010.<br/><br/>Within hours after the contours of the new Parliament became known, Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a brief statement described the outcome of the general election as a clear a re-statement on him and his policies.<br/><br/>The statement said, "this is the triumph of democracy."
