Lankan Navy arrests 29 Tamil fishermen

Sri Lankan Navy arrested 29 Tamil fishermen when they were fishing near international maritime boundary line today morning. The Lankan Navy also detained three fishing boats of the fishermen. <br/><br/>Sri Lankan navy has again arrested 29 Tamil fishermen from Nagapattinam. This has created lot of tension in fishermen hamlets of Nagai. The Tamil fishermen were fishing near Kodiakarai international maritime boundary line when Lankan Navy confronted them. The Sri Lankan Navy also detained three fishing boats. <br/><br/>More than 57 Tamil fishermen are languishing in Lankan jail and their 60 fishing boats are in Sri Lankan custody. Local Tamil fishermen are urging the government to secure the immediate release of arrested Tamil fishermen and their fishing boats from Lankan custody. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa earlier wrote a letter urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps to secure release of Tamil fishermen in Lankan Jail and fishing boats. She said that the livelihood of poor fishermen is badly affected due to damage of fishing boats detained by Lanka.
