Sri Lankan Navy apprehended six Indian fishermen from Rameswaram when they were fishing in international waters near Talai Mannar today evening. The Sri Lankan Navy also detained their one fishing boat. <br/><br/>Sri Lankan Navy is continuing arrest of Indian fishermen near Lankan waters. In the past week Lankan Navy has arrested 38 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This has created tension in fishermen hamlets of Nagai and Rameswaram. <br/><br/>Local fishermen are urging the government to secure the release of Tamil fishermen languishing in Lankan jail and stop Lankan Navy from attacking fishermen. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urging to intervene and secure the release of 28 fishermen lodged in Lankan jail and 138 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
