Lankan military offers to discharge all deserters

Sri Lanka's military on Wednesday offered to discharge all 50,000 deserters without taking legal action against them as part of a concession to mark the Independence Day on Friday. Military spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala said, those soldiers and officers who want to surrender can report to their original regimental centres and get a discharge certificate from February 4 to 12. He clarified that it is not an amnesty. It is a special concession to mark the Independence Day.
