Lankan Army to share its military experience in defeating terrorism

Two years after the military victory of the security forces over the LTTE, the Sri Lankan Army is holding a three day seminar starting Tuesday to share is military experience with the international community in defeating terrorism.India , Russia, China, Pakistan , Bangladesh are some of the 42 countries who will participate in the Conference on ‘Defeating Terrorism: the Sri Lankan Experience’ in Colombo.More than 100 international delegates are expected to join the three day Conference. UK and US have however expressed regrets to participate in this Conference.The panel presenting the Sri Lankan Experience would share their knowledge of counter-insurgency measures, emphasizing the predominance of the political effort, military efficient politico military gearing and rapid resettlement as the core contributors to the success of the campaign. The foremost point is to specify the factors that contributed to militarily defeating the LTTE.International Human rights group have a given a call to boycott the event . The Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that Governments should decline the invitation to attend a Sri Lankan military conference that seeks to legitimize the unlawful killing of thousands of civilians during the armed conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Human Rights Watch said today.Sri Lanka is likely to use this opportunity to answer some of the criticisms leveled against its military during the war against the LTTE.The UN Experts’ Panel Report , which was released last month have recommended a setting up of an independent international investigation in the alleged war crimes committed during the last stage of the war with the LTTE.AIR correspondent reports, amidst call of boycott by Human Right Groups and in the shadow of the UN Experts’ Panel Report calling for setting up of an independent international investigation in the alleged war crimes committed during the last stage of the war with the LTTE , Sri Lankan Army is all set to hold a three day conference on defeating terrorism. The emphasis would be on factors that contributed to military defeat of the LTTE.China, the island's key arms supplier, is co-sponsoring the conference, which will also be attended by a delegation from Russia, another strong ally of the island nation.The powerful Defence secretary of Sri Lanka Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session on Tuesday.
