Today the main opposition United National Party (UNP) in Sri Lanka staged a protest outside the Welikada prison demanding the release of former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.Hundreds of UNP supporters shouted slogans in support of the former Army Chief , who is serving a jail term after a court martial found him guilty of corrupt practices.The protesters also vowed to campaign against the Sri Lankan President and his government. They demanded that the government ensures media freedom. Issue of price rise was also raised.Leader of the opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe and Sajith Premadasa joined the protest march .On Tuesday , the ultra left JVP had a sit in demonstration calling for the immediate release of Fonseka.
