Lanka temporarily closes its embassy in Libya

Sri Lanka has temporarily closed its embassy in Libya as a precautionary measure, the External Affairs Ministry here said According to the government website, this precautionary step had been taken due to the prevailing situation in the country.According to the report, the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Tripoli and other staff have already returned to Colombo. The Sri Lanka mission in Cairo will handle all related matters with Libya At the time of the protest launched by Libyan the Sri Lanka government made an appeal to thousands of its expatriate workers to contact the mission if they want a safe return to the country. No Sri Lankan casualties have been reported during the protest march or in the air strikes.Meanwhile, Minister for External Affairs G L Peires in Parliament today said that Sri Lanka as a member State of the United Nation does not approve or encourage the air strike on Libiya.
