With the departure of 58 remaining fishermen from Sri Lanka for Nagapattinam today morning, all 98 Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody, have been repatriated.
According to Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Authority, 21 boats have also been returned, while one boat is being repaired and will be returned soon.
Indian fishermen were released by Sri Lankan government as a goodwill gesture after India abstained from voting on an anti-Sri Lanka resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council last week.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that the second round of talks between the fishermen of the two countries will be held in due course at a mutually convenient date. The first round of talks were held in Chennai in January.
