Lanka rehabilitates LTTE cadres

A group of 400 more rehabilitated female LTTE cadres received employment at a garment factory yesterday.300 of which completed their rehabilitation at the Weppamkulam Center and the rest at the Poonthottam Centre in Vavuniya. They received employment at the Tri-Star Apparel Factory in Alawwa.The former women fighters had surrendered to the security forces during the final stage of the operation and were trained to enable them secure employment.The Sri Lankan government had established 15 rehabilitation centers for nearly 12,000 ex-combatants who surrendered to the security forces. According to the authorities the government had so far released nearly half of them following rehabilitation, enabling the government to close seven of the 15 centers.500 such rehabilitated cadres had earlier received employment with the help of the government. 530 child soldiers were rehabilitated and entrusted to their parents. 2500 who were disabled in the conflict were also handed over to their parents.
