Sri Lanka today expressed readiness to take back the unfortunate victims of migrant smuggling from the island nation to Australia once their identities are established. Talking to the visiting Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith President Mahinda Rajapaksa offered to cooperate with Australia to investigate, track down and bring to justice the masterminds who are involved in migrant smuggling. Apart from discussion on countering migrant smuggling, the Australian Foreign Minister conveyed Canberra's interest for more engagement in the rehabilitation and reconstruction in the North and East. The two countries also signed MoU concerning Legal Cooperation against the Smuggling of Migrants.
