Lanka President woos Tamil constituency by making his maiden visit to Shrine of Virgin Mary

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today wooed the Tamil constituency by making his maiden visit to Shrine of Virgin Mary at Madhu and then by addressing a large gathering of war displaced Tamil civilians at Manik Farm in Vavuniya.Speaking in Tamil for 15 minutes to IDPs at Vavuniaya , Mr. Rajapaksa reiterated the commitment of his Government to re-settle each of the nearly 2.9 lakh war displaced Tamil civilians by 31st of January 2010 and assured them a new life in the post-Prabakaran era.He received a thunderous applause from the Tamil audience and later mixed with the crowd to know their welfare. At both the places, the Sri Lankan President mixed with the Tamils who had gathered at these places to see him. At Madhu Church, he attended the special mass along with the war displaced Tamil civilians.Earlier in the day, Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Puthukkudirippu (PTK) , theatre of the final battle between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan security forces in the Eelam War IV, and declared open a monument built in memory of soldiers of the island nation who died fighting the Tigers.
