Landslides triggered by incessant rain claims over 24 lives in Nepal

In Nepal, over two dozen people have been killed on Tuesday in separate landslides in remote far western districts due to incessant rain since past three days. According to police sources, 11 persons were killed in the worst affected Achham district in two separate landslides. 12 persons died in neighboring Dadeldhura district where landslides swept away two houses. The dead included seven children. Two other children were pulled out alive by rescue workers. While two persons died in Bhajan, one each in Doti, Baitadi and Kailai districts, police said. Additional police and rescue workers were dispatched to the affected areas but continuing bad weather were hampering rescue works.Over a thousand families have been displaced by landslides and flood in western Nepal.Road communication has been disrupted in several places due to landslides that damaged roads and bridges. A statement issued by the meteorological department said large parts of western Nepal had received rains in excess of 20 centimeters in the past 48 hours till Tuesday evening.
