Landslides suspend yatra to Himalayan shrines in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, yatra to the Himalayan shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath has been suspended on Saturday as landslides continue to block the national highways leading to these places. More than a dozen houses were damaged due to fresh instances of rain last night. As per reports in Ghat block of Chamoli district few houses have caved in and some Acres of agriculture land have been washed away due to heavy rains. Meanwhile Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway is still blocked fore more than two weeks. Whereas Kedarnath-Badrinath route was disrupted after boulders slipped from a hilltop at Sirobagad, blocking the route completely. The blocked road has not only left pilgrims stranded, but also caused a shortage of essential commodities to local residents. Officials, however, claimed that all arrangements have been made to deal with the situation.
