Landslides in China claim 17 lives, 44 missing

In China, rain-triggered landslides left 17 people dead and 44 missing today in southwestern Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. Local authorities said four people were killed and 42 others went missing after landslides and floods hit Xiaohe Township in Yunnan province. <br/><br/>Another, 53 people had been injured in the disaster. In the neighboring Sichuan Province, a rain-triggered landslide left seven people dead and one missing in Yandai Village. <br/><br/>Rescuers said they had recovered the bodies of six and were searching for one more after a landslide hit Sima Village in the province. Rescue work at the three sites of landslides in Yunnan and Sichuan is underway.<br/><br/> <br/>
