A landslide has buried up to 300 houses in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca and is feared to have killed hundreds while they slept. Local media said heavy rain overnight saturated the soil on a mountainside above the town of Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, causing it to slip early today. It is not clear how many people have been affected, but the state governor said 500 to 600 could have been buried.Governor Ulises Ruiz said there has been lots of rain, rivers have overflowed and they are having a hard time reaching the area because there are landslides on the roads. Emergency personnel are being flown from Mexico City to the town, about 80 kilometres east of Oaxaca city.
