The government today notified the establishment of the Land Ports Authority of India under the Land Ports Authority of India Act, 2010. The authority has been tasked with the responsibility of putting in place systems which address security imperatives relating to the cross border movement of passengers, vehicles and goods.
It will also help to develop Integrated Check Posts at designated points along the international borders of the country. According to an official release, the authority comprises a Chairman and two whole-time Members and will have representation of officials concerned from the centre and the states.
