The Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay a Bombay High Court judgment in connection with a case involving allotment of 20 acre land to filmmaker Subhash Ghai's institute. Responding to a petition filed by former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, the apex court said that the case cannot be dismissed at threshold, however, it will hear in detail the petition filed by Deshmukh. In its petition, Deshmukh sought expunging of remarks made by the high court judgment which said that Deshmukh had misused his official position as chief minister by showing undue favours.
A bench of the apex court issued notices and sought response within four weeks from the petitioners on whose plea the high court had passed the verdict. The court in its verdict had directed filmmaker Subhash Ghai to return the land alloted for his film institute, Whistling Woods, back to the state government.
