In Odisha, land acquisition work for the 52,000 crore rupee, Posco steel project near Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district resumed this morning amidst tight security. The work is being undertaken by four teams comprising over 60 government officials at Polanga village under Gada Kujanga gram panchyat. No untoward incidents have so far been reported even as the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), an anti-Posco project body, is holding a massive protest rally near Balitutha, the gateway to the proposed steel project. The land acquisition process was halted on August 6 last year following a stop work order from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) project in the country was given a go-ahead signal a few days ago with a number of conditions.
