The government today introduced the Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill 2011 in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims at ensuring among other things, a humane, participatory, informed, consultative and transparent process for land acquisition.

It also ensures least disturbance to the owners of the land and other affected families and provides just and fair compensation to the affected families whose land has been acquired or proposed to be acquired. The bill was introduced by the Rural Development Minister, Mr Jairam Ramesh.
