In Odisha, the land acquisition for the 52,000 crore rupee Posco steel project has been postponed for today following incessant rain in the project area near Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district. The land acquisition process was scheduled to resume today after a five-day halt due to local mass festival 'Rajo'. Additional District Magistrate of Paradip, Saroj Kant Choudhury, told AIR that land acquisition for the Posco project in trouble-turned Gobindpur would resume tomorrow if weather conditions are favourable. Meanwhile, the agitating villagers under the banner of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti say, they are ready for a face-off with the administration and security forces if their lands are acquired forcefully for the Posco project. Posco has planned to built a 12 million tonne steel plant, the largest foreign investment in India, near the port town of Paradip, about 120 km from Bhubaneswar. The company requires about 4,004 acres of land for the project, of which 2,900 acres is forest land. The local administration said it has already acquired nearly 2000 acres of land for the project.
