Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said that the proposed Land Acquisition Bill will protect the interests of those rendered landless. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Mr Ramesh said, the Bill makes it clear that if any land acquired for any specific purpose, is not used within five years, it will be given back to their owners. Mr Ramesh said the draft Bill is in the public domain. He informed the House that after getting comments from various political leaders and Chief Ministers of the states, the Bill will be introduced in the Parliament. The Minister further said, there is also a provision in the Bill that the multi-crop irrigated land will not be acquired.
