The government today said that the Land Acquisition Bill will be placed before the Cabinet next week. It aims among other things, to provide a just and fair compensation to land owners. Secretary in the Department of Land Resources in the Ministry of Rural Development, Ms Anita Chaudhary expressed hope that the Bill will come in the coming monsoon session of Parliament. She was talking to reporters in New Delhi on the sidelines of Assocham Conference. The monsoon session of Parliament is starting from the 8th of this month.
The Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011 was introduced in Parliament in September last year and was referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee, which submitted its recommendations in May this year. It is likely to be rechristened as the Right to Compensation, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Bill.
The objective of the Bill is to ensure transparent process for land acquisition and provide just and fair compensation to the affected families whose land has been acquired.
