RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has called for state-wide bandh in Bihar today demanding the release of caste census figures by the Central government. Mr Yadav yesterday observed a day's fasting at Gandhi Maidan in Patna to protest against non-disclosure of caste sensus report by the Centre. He said, the data would reveal the real numbers of Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes, which he claimed had increased three times over the years. The last caste census was conducted in 1931 during the British rule. Accusing BJP as anti-poor, Lalu Prasad Yadav said there will be a contest between Mandal and Kamandal in up-coming Bihar Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, in the first ever public display of unity with RJD, JD(U) President Sharad Yadav yesterday joined the fast to demanding immediate release of caste data collated in the Socio-Economic Census. This is for the first time top leaders of the two parties have shared a common platform after Nitish Kumar was accepted as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the grand alliance comprising JD(U)-RJD-Congress and NCP on 8th of last month.
