Lalit modi heading for showdown with BCCI, Questions legality of council Meeting

IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi and BCCI are heading for a show down, ahead of governing Council meeting on Monday. While, the meeting has been convened to decide the fate of Modi, the IPL Chief has questioned its legality. <br/><br/>Modi is understood to have conveyed to the BCCI that he would not be in a position to attend the meeting as he wanted more time for preparation. <br/><br/>However, BCCI sources expressed confidence that Modi will be voted out of the post. <br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, who is facing allegations of financial irregularities and favouring family and friends in franchise bids, has not so far hinted to step down from his post. <br/><br/>The pressure on Modi increased after the minister of state for external affairs Shashi Tharoor resigned in the wake of IPL controversy.<br/><br/>BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla, today briefed Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh over alleged financial irregularities in the IPL. <br/><br/>Mr. Shukla, who is in the IPL governing council, is believed to have briefed the prime minister about the controversy surrounding the cash-rich Twenty20 domestic cricket tournament. <br/><br/>This was his second meeting with the prime minister since Monday over the issue. The meeting came close on the heels of the opposition demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the money laundering and gambling allegations in the IPL. <br/><br/>Later talking to newsmen Mr. Shukla said that the Board will not hesitate in taking harsh decisions to protect its image which has taken a hit due to allegations of financial irregularities.
