Lakhs of people pay tribute; Last rites to be performed at Marina Beach area in Chennai at 4:30 this afternoon

A wave of humanity could be seen at the Rajaji Hall making everyone wonder whether they could really get to see their leader before the scheduled time for the last march by 4.30 pm today. People had managed to reach the destination Chennai unmindful of no public transport and other logistic support. The emotionally charged sympathisers including a large number of women could be seen wailing and trying to force their way through the barricades crying out to their favorite puratchi thalaivi.

For 75 days, party cadres have been seeking the Almighty to intervene and save their leader by pushing themselves into various hardships and fasting all over the State. The streaming VIPs have also been handled gently just giving fraction of seconds to pay their respects. The AIADMK MLAs and the MPs are seated on the steps leading to the pedestal where the mortal remains of the Chief Minister has been placed.

Barring political, cultural and religious differences people have thronged to the State's capital to offer last respects to the departed leader. Condolence messages have been pouring in from all over the Country. A strong women leader who has been maintaining a significant image in the predominantly patriarchal political world has been the only one voice of the AIADMK.

Her confident voice will not only be missed in the State Assembly but also a vacant place in the regional and national politics. She had an image which none dared to touch and meddle with as she carved out an informidable place in the hearts of her party cadres.
