Lakhimpur Case: 34 lekhpals arrested, FIR against SDM and Tehsildar

In Uttar Pradesh, 34 lekhpals, revenue department personnel, have been arrested and FIR has also been lodged against concerned SDM and Tehsildar into killing of two Advocates in firing incident at Mohammadi tehsil premises in Lakhimpur Kheri district yesterday.An official spokesperson has told AIR Lucknow correspondent that magisterial enquiry has been initiated to probe the killing. Police has recovered one rifle and 25 cartridges from the incident site. Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow Prashant Trivedi and Inspector General of Police Lucknow Range Subesh Kumar Singh have been asked to camp at Lakhimpur Kheri to keep eyes on the situation.As per reports available during a clash between groups of Lekhpals and advocates two lawyers Pradip Dixit and Mukul Tewari were killed and 3 others injured. One of injured advocates has been referred to Lucknow in serious condition. The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has announced that Monday will be observed as a protest day across the state during which lawyers will abstain from all judicial work.Meanwhile all major opposition parties in the state including Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party have demanded compensation to the next kin of deceased advocates. Congress has demanded an inquiry by a sitting judge of the High Court into the incident and actions against District Magistrate and district police chief. The main opposition Samajwadi Party has demanded dismissal of Mayawati government.
